The project involved the refurbishment of Level 10 & 11 which included demolition, construction, supply and installation, creating partitions, ceilings, joinery, loose furniture, workstations, storage décor and finishes, floor coverings, blinds, signage and graphics.
UTS had a goal of achieving a 5-6 Green Star rating and chose SHAPE for this project due to our Green Star expertise. Achieving a 5-6 Green Star rating within an existing building is a complicated process, but our frequent collaboration with all stakeholders (including the architects, building management and end-user teams), allowed us to meet all requirements from design through to completion.
Due to the existing building structure within UTS, there were several issues identified with the service design. We workshopped how this design could be altered for better performance through detailed design coordination with the architect, PCA and service consultant. We were then able to create a more efficient and effective mechanical system for the project.
With inspiration drawn from the natural Australian environment, the award-winning UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures project achieved a 6-Star Green Star interior accreditation within the heritage-listed Fairfax & Sons newspaper and publishing building in Ultimo.
